When we think of acne, we tend to directly relate this to facial acne issues. But sadly, it doesn’t stop there. Many of us probably have experienced body acne in the past or still have body acne on the area of chest, back, neck or other parts of the body.
So what are the causes of body acne? How can we prevent further acne scar damage on our bodies and get rid of body acne?
The causes of body acne comes from clogged pores of the body hair follicles. Our body creates natural healthy oil called sebum; but, when this oil gets excessively produced, it sometimes clogs the hair follicles which cause the pores not to breath properly and collapses the pore. This ultimately creates an environment where dirt and bacteria can get into the skin showing the symptoms that we physically see such as blackhead, pimples, facial or body acne.
Also, when people do heavy cardio exercises such as riding a weight training, bicycling and jogging, our bodies perspire more frequently and produces sweat tangling with bacteria and dirt. Acne can be genetic, so whether those with the trait make a substantial effort to keep their skin clean and free of sweat, it might be inevitable. However, in order to reduce the impact and not make it worse, there are several ways to get rid of body acne from happening.
If you are sweaty from exercise or the weather, make sure to wash your body by taking a quick shower. It will eliminate the excuses of clogged pores in the body. It is also important to wear clothes that are lightweight and breathable (cotton, Seersucker polyester, Rayon polyester).
Using a chemical free lotion is an effective way to moisturize and provide the least irritation to your skin.
Now let’s talk about existing body acne treatments. When you were young, I am sure your parents mentioned “Don’t pick your pimples” many times. And they are absolutely right! Why? By picking your acne and specifically during its inflamed (redness, exposed) period, it irritates the skin and generates more inflammation which can result in acne scars, redness to the face and if untreated will lead to deep pore collapsing.
If you have enough in your budget to go to see dermatologist and you would like to seek treatment; here are a couple of fast and popular body acne treatments
- Laser treatment resurfacing: what this technique does is to eliminate your outer layer of skin to prepare the newly created skin to take over. This is not for those who scar easily and takes months to recover. It is important to talk to get evaluated by dermatologist before you do this procedure
- Chemical Peel: it is similar to laser treatment; by removing the first layer of skin, it exposes the clean underneath skin. This also removes the rough texture of the skin as well.
